HOW MUCH DO I LOVE ABC2?????

Well, not nearly as much as I will ever love the Beeb or Channel4, but I am sitting here on Sunday morning watching Video Hits (with the sound off as most of it is CRAP) and wishing that rage was still on at 9.00am. Anyway, this fabulous new program that I am using now called Morning Coffee has opened up all my daily websites to peruse whilst having my coffee! My RSS' include the ABC2 daily schedule, and guess what Sunday is on ABC2? MUSIC DAY!!! So I have now discovered that "London Live", a program that started after I left the UK is broadcast weekly here on ABC2 and that next week at 6.00pm, none other than my wonderful ex-colleagues Belle and Sebastian will be on. I had a little shout and Molly jumped and I'm a happy lady. I like technology and LOVE Freeview boxes ... digital is the way forward people, make sure you engage!

Now all I have to do is make sure I can switch the bloody telly off long enough to be able to do all of my Uni reading for this week, yipes!

Slightly confused

So, I'm an atheist, right? However, I still can't help but be fascinated by religions and the increasing roles they play in society today. At one of our orientation days, there was a talk given by one of the chaplains of the college's, who is also a lecturer at the University. He was telling us about a unit he is running this semester about Religion and Sport, the way that so many professional players these days are referred to in biblical or religious terms in the media - the prodigal son, baptism of fire etc. And then, I come across this article in the Guardian this morning and it makes me want to be able to enrol in Yale to hear his lectures:-

Blair plans to teach religion at Yale

This man was our "saviour" in 1997, before he betrayed us in 2001. However, as much as I disagree with his policies and religious beliefs, he is still an amazing orator and I think it would be an amazing privilege to be taught by him.

I suppose I can understand now why Philosophy and Theology are so intertwined and often taught together. Maybe I'll be able to explore that a little more in my studies at some point?

Uh oh ...

I just made a big tray of chocolate brownie*. Which, wouldn't be such an issue, if you hadn't seen what Amanda and I attempted to eat yesterday as well as viewing my Facebook status for the day before.

How am I going to resist it???

* is it "a tray of chocolate brownie" (singular) OR "a tray of chocolate brownies" (plural)? Anyone know? If I'd cut the massive block up into individual bits it would be easy, but I haven't. I've just cut a strip off the side, which yes, I have already eaten. It wasn't a massive strip, just enough for two trips back to the kitchen after I'd had the first bit, 'tis all.

Maybe I should go for a walk? I am currently uploading banner images and trying to write a blog for Cutters myspaz, woo!

Espana vs Italia?

Oh, how much do I LOVE the Guardian? I should really be doing reading for my second European Studies tutorial tomorrow, but I can't resist an update on the other countries. We focus on the Balkans, Turkey, and Russia in this semester, however here's an interesting story about how Spain is overtaking Italy in the progressive/wealth stakes in Europe, much to the Azzuri's disgust. So why - still! - can I not study Spanish at University? In Perth, at least. Here's hoping I hear back from the Hispanic club I signed up to the other day with news of their language classes, yay! OK, back to the books ... well, back to some Cutters work actually. Bah.

First day at University for me in fifteen years!

I had lectures for European Studies, Philosophy and Latin today, with Politics tomorrow. So far, I think I'm going to love them all, Latin is certainly going to be the most challenging with all the rote learning involved. ES is going to be an absolute dream as it gives me a legitimate reason to pay closer attention to SBS News and my Guardian Weekly subscription and to read deeper about the formation of Europe as it is now. Philosophy for the first semester focuses on Plato, Freud, Sartre and Darwin and I have read pretty much nothing of any of them, just a wee bit of criticism of Darwin and some Sartre, so that will all be incredibly eye opening and terribly terribly interesting.

I am completely knackered now, can't be bothered even putting leftovers in the microwave to heat! Gotta get motivated, I know how important it is to eat properly and look after myself. There's just so much to think about. Like, now I'm watching the Premier League and Serie A news and I wish I had more time to watch football too. I miss not being up on what's going on, I miss being amongst the boys and knowing what the standings are. I miss BBC radio and the hourly news updates.

But, campus is pretty and hopefully I'll be able to listen online to 6music again one day soon.

The highs and lows are ever-present.

And what am I studying at University???

Which literature classic are you?

George Orwell: Nineteen Eighty-Four. You are the classic warning against the threat of totalitarianism. To you, politics and philosophy are inseparable, auchtorities suck and the reality might not exist outside our imaginations.

Couldn't be any more spot on if I'd tried! Does that mean all this study malarkey may actually be easy? Doubt it ...
